You can always come up with reasons not to do something. I’m not qualified, I’m too short, it’s too far, I don’t have the money, I don’t have the time or resources, I don’t know anyone. I’m not that good at it, what if…they are all EXCUSES.
I overheard a conversation of a friend of mine who mentors a young man with Cerebral Palsy. This 23 year-old desires to be a motivational speaker and though he’s never spoken in front of a crowd he records himself and post videos on YouTube. He calls himself a motivational speaker. He said I don’t want to talk to people with disabilities I want to motivate everyone. He would go on to say lots of great nuggets, the one that stood out the most, “I refuse to put limitations on myself.” I almost cried.
Friends, don’t allow excuses to hold you back. Surround yourself with things and people that encourage you to keep going. Shoot read this blog again. Please don’t stop, start pursuing your dreams now. If you’ve delayed, stopped or given up on your dreams now is the time to revisit them. If you need to tweak them, tweak them. Just do it now, remember that procrastination and fear are two big hinders of reaching your dreams. Don’t succumb to the idea of fear and don’t delay. And by all means don’t live with regrets, start today. If someone with a disability such as Cerebral Palsy can so can you…NO EXCUSES.
Quote: “Excuses, reasoning with ourselves and then convincing others of our mishaps and dysfunctions.”
Tip: If you find yourself coming up with excuses think of someone who has overcome the odds and continues to push through. Allow them to motivate you to do the same.
